Shakira has received an unexpected Christmas gift: the inauguration of her statue in Barranquilla, her hometown, in honor of her dedication to music and various humanitarian causes in Colombia. Unfortunately, she could not be present at the event, but her parents, her brother and the mayor of the city attended in her place.
The day was very special for her because it coincided with her mother Nidia del Carmen’s birthday. In addition, her father Wililam Mebarak was able to represent her during the ceremony, which implies that he is quite recovered after a difficult year in terms of health. As the commemorative plaque explains, the work has been created by the artist Yino Márques in the La Paz neighborhood with the support of students and graduates of the District School of Arts.
